“What have we come to when [Philip] Johnson, that shameless powerbroker and a self-described nihilist, looks like a moral beacon in retrospect?”
MoMA Loses Face, by Martin Filler at the NYRB blog.
It’s been ten years since I began my own private boycott of MoMA, when they raised their entry fee from $12 to $20. (They raised it another $5 in 2011). Art may cost an arm and a leg to buy, but it shouldn’t cost a pinky finger to visit.
Now they’re transferring their utter lack of respect for the public to the destruction of Williams and Tsien’s very fine American Folk Art Museum (1997-2001), despite widespread love for the building and no good reason to get rid of it.
Shame on you yet again, MoMA.
“He created an elegant yet pervy style of dance…”
There’s a new biography of Bob Fosse?! Was Kevin Grubb’s Razzle Dazzle: The Life and Work of Bob Fosse (1989) not the final word?
In any case, in Bookforum Ben Schwartz finds the new one leaves something to be desired…
